James Shen

James Zsaigen Shen, 93, passed away Monday, May 18, 2015 in Sacramento following a brief illness. He is survived through his wife of 70 years, Lan-Fen and his five children; daughter, Hwa-Yih and her companion, Steve Nerad of Roseville, CA; daughter, Hwa-Hsi of Hillsboro, TN; son, Hwa-Hsiung and his wife Yi-Fan of Taiwan; daughter, Hwa-Chen and her husband Randall Winton of Estill Springs, TN; son, Hwa-Lun and his wife Dawn of Carmichael, CA; his twelve grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Born and raised in Shanghai, China, the youngest son of Kuan-Fu and Cai-Zhen (Gao) Shen. Mr. Shen held a Bachelor's Degree in Economics. He met his wife Lan-Fen and eventually married in 1946. Mr. Shen had a long eventful career in the financial industry as a banker, and founder of Chinese Art Ballet Company because of his affection for art and music. Due to political issues, he moved his family to Taiwan in 1948. He retired in 1978 and moved to Sacramento, CA in 1980 to be close to his grown children in the U.S. and help raise their children. Most of his days were spent influencing his grandchildren and later great-grandchildren with Chinese art and teaching them about their Chinese heritage. He also maintained a very healthy lifestyle through exercising daily and masterful home cooking. For fun, he enjoyed spending time in the jacuzzi reflecting on the fullness of his life as well as going out to restaurants with his family, one of his favorites being Red Lobster. Mr. Shen had a passion for family and wanted nothing more than for his children and grand/great-grandchildren to have as much love in their lives as he had. His family remembers him as a gentle, caring, loving and positive man. His proud, positive outlook reflected his primary mission in life which was to bring happiness and joy to those around him. His legacy continues forever on through family and friends. A "Celebration Of His Life" gathering will be held on May 22, 2015 from 3:00 until 5:00 PM at Sierra View Funeral Chapel located at 6201 Fair Oaks Bl in Carmichael, CA.
