Kiyohiko Shiba

Kiyohiko “K” Shiba, a longtime resident of Sacramento, CA passed away November 22, 2015 at the age of 93. K was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a life-long learner who loved to read and solve problems. He enjoyed the outdoors - working in his garden and watching hummingbirds, and he was a talented woodworker and handyman. K was a humble man who had a strong work ethic and a good sense of humor; he loved to laugh. K was born to the late Seijiro and Kazue Shiba in Cutler, CA on June 14, 1922. He graduated from Orosi High School in 1940. In 1950, he married Lydia and they moved to Kerman, CA where he worked as an associate engineer for the Kerman Telephone Company. In 1963, they moved their family to Sacramento, CA where K worked as an associate telecommunications engineer for the State of California Department of Transportation. He retired in 1986 after working 23 years. Every summer, the family returned to his parents’ peach farm in Cutler, CA to assist with the harvest and the children have fond memories of those times spent with extended family. K leaves behind his wife of 65 years, Lydia, his son David and daughter-in-law Debra of Modesto, CA, daughter Kathie and son-in-law Jeff of Maryville, TN, son Kenneth of Sacramento. and daughter Nancy of Sacramento. He was the oldest sibling and is survived by his brother George and sister-in-law Jean of Orosi, CA, brother Ben of Visalia, CA, sister Julie of Visalia, CA, sister Midori of Visalia, CA, sister Miyuki of Las Vegas, NV, and brother John and sister-in-law Linda of Cutler, CA. He is preceded in death by his sister Ruby of Los Angeles, CA. Grandpa K will be deeply missed by his grandchildren: Rebecca of Sacramento, CA, Sara and Jeff of Denver, CO, Ty and Megan of Oakland, CA, Michael and Bonnie of Richmond Hill, GA, Sarah and Brent of Kernersville, NC, Crystal and Brad of Lafayette, LA, Debra Marie and Tony of Chico, CA, Bryan of San Francisco, CA, Steven of Santa Clara, CA, and Jacob of Maryville, TN, as well as by his 8 great-grandchildren. K enjoyed playing with and teaching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren – he influenced many people by his example. His ashes will be privately interred at the family plot at Smith Mountain Cemetery. Please join us for a Celebration of Life Service for both Lydia and K followed by a lunch reception which will be held Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Palm United Methodist Church, 438 West Tulare Street, Dinuba, CA.
